Very small collection of trees and plants. None of the trees in my yard in Northern California that I wanted to identify were on there. So useless, buying a book.
Fun addition to my backpack & immensely enjoyed by companions on hikes!. Identified plenty of wildflowers in the Spring but the guide falls way short of being comprehensive & the drawings (not photos) make identifications dubious. Nevertheless, I know of nothing better that's this light weight. Wouldn't leave home without it when going on a hike. Same guide sold near Big Sur trailheads for the same price.
I had high hopes for this. It's made of good quality material, but the species are limited by the pamphlet's space. Every time the kids and I took it with us on nature walks, hardly any of what we were seeing was represented on the pamphlet. :(
These little folding guides -- we also have the birding one for NorCal -- are awesome. Lightweight but printed on durable thick paper with a plastic like covering. They don't have every animal or plant but they have the major ones. Just what you want on the trail. Useful but won't slow you down. And then, when you get back to civilization, you can look stuff up in a book or online and get all the details.
These guides are fabulous. So great for your hiking backpack
Perfect little folding and easy to take with you when camping or looking at specific plants.
My daughter and family have purchased a summer cottage in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountain National Forrest/Park. So for a gift to keep in their cottage to learn and share when company come to visit. As it is waterproof for all those awesome rafting or tubing trips and compact for backpacking on the beautiful trails in and around the mountains.
