My first-grader loves math and was super excited about this book. I really like the way it is divided into weeks and days. You don't have to argue with your kids about how many more math problems they have to do :) Done with week one, day one problems? Move on to reading/playing, whatever. They also have over 500 minutes of video explanations. So if math is not your thing, watch the videos! There's also an option to have a live chat with a tutor between 8am-6pm EST, mon-sun (which is awesome for working parents!). I'm glad the tutor is available on the weekends as we live on the west coast and I work ~50hrs/week...anyway, over all I am very happy with this workbook. Will purchase other grades once we need them.

This book is worth the money. It’s good for some extra math practice or as review/prep for 1st grade. We just got it last week and my 1st grader almost done with it. The last chapters are slightly challenging to him but totally doable. I am thinking of getting grade 2 book for him as well as higher grade books for my older kids. The only issue I am having with the book is many typos. For example, the word problem would talk about oranges but the answer choices listed are actually apples. Or the word problem would show a picture of a car but the wording would have cards instead of car. 1st graders are still learning to read and interpret what they have been asked and can be easily confused with misspelled words or incorrect pictures so I hope the authors will do a better job proofreading in the future.

I usually use Singapore Math or Kumon workbooks for my children. I had purchased this one just to try out for my advanced kindergardener. I was pleasantly surprised. The book is organized by days/weeks, that way a child can do a little every day, and it is not overwhelming. The problems have nice visualuzation with counters at the beginning of the book. At the end of the book, there are bar models used for more complex problems. I definitely liked the word problems as well, which are easy to read even for my five year old. Overall, I am thrilled with my purchase. And you cannot beat the price!

I’ve tried many different math workbooks with my daughter. It is extremely hard to interest her. But this book is divided into small sections that set up a goal for the day so she feels like it is not too much to do but it is definitely a good practice for her to do daily. It is nice it is only 5 days week. So that she knows there is no homework on the weekends:)There are video tutorials available if you’re stuggling how to explain something to your child. Not that it is hard but sometimes kids understand something better from other person’s perspective.The only thing I would change - print it in color.Otherwise a great purchase for very little money.

At a first glance, this book looked like any other "a practice problem a day" book. Also, I did not find it matching very well with the material covered in class (could be just that our school does not follow the public school system though). For example on Week 1 Day 1 there is the 3+3 problem, together with 15-?=7. I feel like 3+3 is too easy compared with 15-?=7 and therefore not targeting the same level, even though given on the same day. However, the online resources make all the difference. I have included a screen shot of a lesson. The problems are well explained and I like the little tips at the top of each page. I also like the 'chat' option available, where you can get help from a tutor with additional explanation or questions.

So, I’m on of those parents who was puzzled by first grader’s common core math. Joined the club! I had to google for common core strategies for couple of my son’s homeworks, and then decided to get a book, so I have something close and always available. So far, I love this book, love how it’s organized, and definitely clarifies common cor puzzles for me.

This is the math book that my son uses in 1st grade. He was not doing so well in Math. So I purchased this book so that I can work with him at home. Best money I have ever spent.

I bought this book for my first grader. The book is very well organized and devided into weekly and daily exercises. It goes along with video explanations (the videos are online), which is very helpful, and assessments. Well worth the money!

This is a cute book, and well made. I bought it as a Christmas present, and although the pages are not at all for kids, it was still a big hit. If you are looking for a true first alphabet book, this is not what you are looking for. If you are looking for a fun baby gift for a Cowboys fan, however, this is a perfect idea.

Used this as a baby shower gift for my aunt and uncle who are huge Pats fans, they loved it! It is small, but a good size for baby and the pictures and words inside aren't affected by the book size.

Ok, it's not the best toddler book I have, but is Packers and I love it. My toddler has no idea what the words are in the pictures, but its still awesome. Don't get this unless you are a fan.

if you are a Giants Fan and have a new baby grandson GET THIS BOOK- great sturdy quality and wonderful price and adorable as heck- even though his father is an eagles fan He loved it as well

It's a cute book for your children. Couple things, there is a typo on one of the last pages(a misspelled word). Also I wish it had like for the letter B, B is for Brady. But it sticks to generic football things for all the letters.

Cute cute book to give as a baby gift for a Cowboys fan (which is what I did). Not your normal alphabet book for word choices for the letters but can't expect that with a NFL based theme. None the less, I think its cute, the recipient LOVED it and I'm sure the baby will too!

My 17 month old is still not into books, but when he is, he'll love this one. My wife is a Cowboys fan; I'm trying to sway him to be a Pats fan, and this book should help. Lots of words and pictures for learning.

What a delightful little read this one is. My wife and I have been traveling and living in different areas of the country and world since we were first married in 1962 and both are entertained and enlightened by stories of others who share our compulsive travel behavior....yes, we are still at it.This work is the experiences the author and his wife have had living in Provence, France, on and off again for extended periods. It is written in a lighthearted and humorous manner but thank goodness lacks the somewhat over the top caustic and sarcastic wit of writers such as Bill Byrson and his ilk. The author is able to laugh at himself and actually gives quite a good and accurate account of the average American who tries to immerge themselves into another culture. It should be noted that this couple started there extended adventure without the ability to speak the native language...and in France that is a real handicap!Insightful comments are made of food, culture, traffic, living conditions, food and wine and did I mention food? Intermingled with the author’s observations is some very good advice and tips for those who may be contemplating living for an extended period of time in another country and interact with another and different culture. Very valuable information here which is spot on! Our last extended stay in another country was Turkey and while Turkey is far different than France; still the problems and delights are much the same...I suppose they are universal in that aspect.This is a rather fast read and smoothly written. Were I to whine about anything it would be the fact that I would have enjoyed more of the same.

What a great, exciting and fun read. As one who has struggled and stumbled through a similar life transition into a new country, I can entirely relate, and laugh, at the author's steps and missteps along the way. Moving from the top priority being "getting to work on time," to the new priority of "getting to the boulangerie before they run out of butter croissants," can be trying, but oh so worth it in the end.I salute Keith and Val for their vision of a new, simple and magical life, and for their good humor and perseverance to get there. Of course, they had a lot of help along the way from their marvelous new French friends. Get and read it. You'll be smiling for days.

This is a witty book, fun to read. The author has a genuine sense of humor that really comes thru. And the story is inspiring. While a number of people have spent a year abroad in college and then returned later or married a local, Keith and his wife first lived in in a French-speaking part of Switzerland and became enchanted with the French culture. After 5 years there in which he says they never integrated well since they didn't speak the language, they resolved to do things differently the next time. So they moved for several months to Provence and really worked on learning the language, as well as doing that back at home on the several year stretch between returning for another extended stay. So it is clear they devoted serious effort to learning the language. However calling this a book is a bit of a stretch. A tiny-sized paperback to begin with, the font is extra-large and the spacing between lines is similarly large. Add to that the very short chapters, some just 2 pages and half of the 2nd page a blank, you end up with something just past a large pamphlet. Which is disappointing because I enjoyed reading the stories and wish the author had elaborated on them a bit more as well as written about other adventures in France. As outlined above they put a lot of effort into fitting in to the French culture, I wish Keith had written more about it.

Keith has a marvelous way to describe the environment and experience of learning both a new language and a different culture. The book is an easy read of a very tough transition for anyone who decides to relocate to a country with a different way of life, diet and daily tasks. Definitely a must read for anyone who is in love with France and wants to vicariously experience the travels and travails of a couple of Americans in France.

The warm personality and wry good humour of Keith Van Sickle comprise the backbone of this delightful collection of vignettes. He regales us with observations and experiences as a part-time ex-pat in France, accompanied by his wife Val. As they settle into life in the south of France for a few months each year, Keith never ceases to make observations about every aspect of the culture, cuisine, people, language, traditions … down to minute details in some cases. There are many laugh-out-loud moments, all shared with respect for differences and an obvious love for the life he and Val have the good fortune to experience.

Mr. Van Sickle writes 60 short essays about his months in France in this book that isn't long enough to be a book. He and his wife were lucky enough to take at least two three month vacations in Provence.There are some amusing moments, but there are more moments where the humor seemed so forced it made me cringe.I do like that he and his wife did their best to learn French and seem to have done very well.Not bad, but not so good either.

I had read a few of Mr. Bella's books from his New Haven series, and became a fan of the author, before I read this one and I was expecting different characters but maybe the same general outline. Wow...I was completely wrong. This plot, world, characters and just the general feel of this series is different and I couldn't help but enjoy the contrast.I can't wait to see how the characters and story develop through the series. While I liked both MC's I really really prefer Rapheal to Brian. Brian seemed to be weak to me, not physically but personality wise. This is purely a personal opinion because Brian as he is written fits the story but I'm hoping he gets a man up card eventually.I enjoyed getting to know all the characters and reading about the world they live in. It is a modern story set in current times but they have demons running amok in their world and Brian is a cop turned demon (by Rapheal) and he is struggling to come to grips with being not human anymore and what he must do to survive. I'm not going to go more into the plot because I always reveal spoilers on accident but there is a rape scene in this book. Other reviewers have mentioned it so I feel safe saying this: Yes, it is a rape scene. Yes, he ends up enjoying it. No, this is not realistic...because it's pretend, make believe, fantasy, FICTION. Most sane people know that is not not a realistic outcome of rape!! Mr. Bella warns potential readers that his stories are dark, twisted and sadistic but he makes no apologies. Nor should he!

Definitely above free erotica quality. The sex scene was good, and there was even another good scene afterwards (I don't want to go into too much detail and spoil anything). It starts off making you think this is actually some going writing.Then come the backstory and explanations. Not well handled at all. In fact, the story would be far stronger if the main character were left to deal with the difficulties of his situation with no help whatsoever. There's a lot of potential for drama in this idea, but the ball was dropped. I think the author would do well to take a little break from churning out new stuff to study his craft a bit. I am also confused that Amazon lists this "book" as having an editor. Maybe she didn't read it? Doesn't read books published by reputable companies? Isn't a professional editor? I know authors can have a bit of a blind spot when it comes to their own work. I'm just baffled that two people looked at this and this is still what came out.Also, it is a big, big disappointment that the characters are "forced" into being gay by their circumstances. Those of us who actually are gay and who enjoy our sexual orientation like to read about people who enjoy it as much as we do. I can't identify with these characters, and frankly, it's off-putting to read about a guy who finds gay sex distasteful having gay sex. The conflict/rape scene could still have been created if the main character were homosexual, or at least bi.To be clear, this is not the grammatically messy amateur stuff you get for free on the internet. It's worth minimal pay, though certainly not the price that later installments are sold at. However, stars were lost for the insufferable explanations that killed the pace of the story. And for me, the "recruitment" scene at the end guaranteed I won't be reading the next installment. Cliche, boring, way overdone and uninteresting. That said, I may take a stab at a different story by the author and see what happens.

A nonstop, action packed hotnessfest! The characters are definitely not the one dimensional drivel you often get with a hotly erotic read like this. If you are looking for something that is not run of the mill but a well written adventure of hot guys with a very strong paranormal aspect then you should without a doubt read this book. The world Mr. Bella has created and the creatures that inhabit it are different from anything else I've read and that is saying something. I've already gotten the rest of the series and and looking forward to finishing it, except for the fact that I will have to wait for the next one. Warning: while this book is awesome, if you don't like male with male erotica, please don't read this as that is what it is. The sex scenes are very well written and highly erotic but may not be suitable for all readers. Now, if you are not scared off by that, read this book!

I have to say that the rape in the beginning of this book was a bit off for me. While the other Nicholas Bella books that I've read generally have had a strong dub-con/non-con aspect, I never felt that the characters involved were truly forced against their will.After that though, I loved this story and the premise behind it. I can't wait to read the future episodes.

I am a MAJOR fan of Nicholas' New Haven series and when I saw this series being introduced I was hesitant. Demons are not exactly my cup of tea. It took me a while to read this first book but I decided to try it mainly because I love Nicholas' work so much. Once again he has taken me out of my comfort zone and taken me on a an amazing fantastical ride through another world. I am hooked! Nicholas writes his characters so well that they become someone you feel like you have known your whole life within a few pages. I love Brian & am enjoying experiencing his journey along with him. Don't hesitate to start these books. You will be glad you did. :)

This is the first Nicholas Bella book I’ve read and I have to say it’s quite interesting. It’s set in episodes so Chosen is episode one. Quite clever what Nicholas has done here. We have demons and humans and a war to win earth so to speak. Agoto demons are one of the most powerful of demons and when an average Joe is “chosen” to be one, suddenly everyone wants his time, skill, and body.I will absolutely check out episode 2 to see what happens next but I do have a feeling you seriously need to read each one of these to get the whole picture.
